PSCIB_01: Work Area Birthday Card
1. Project Goals
SWBAT:
Open image files in Adobe Photoshop.
Select and use tools in the Tools panel.
Set options for a selected tool using the options bar.
Use various methods to zoom in to and out from an image.
Select, rearrange, and use panels.
Choose commands in panel and context menus.
Open and use a panel in the panel dock.
Undo actions to correct mistakes or to make different choices.
Create an original "Creative Card" using the learning from the assignment
2. How to Use the Book in Class
Use the book by your computer or the PDF version (ask about getting access to it)
3. Read Pages 9 -11
Read with the class
4. Start Photoshop and Restore Default Preferences (Page 10)
Make sure Photoshop is not loaded
Start Photoshop, and then simultaneously hold down Command+Option+Shift
You should get a dialog box like the screenshot shown left.
If you don't get a dialogue box, quit Photoshop and follow the steps above again.
5. Download and Open
Click here to VIEW the 01Start.psd file on Ms. Hooker's Google drive.
6. Save on Computer & Rename File
File > Save As
In the SAVE as window choose "ON YOUR COMPUTER" and name it "Birthday Card" followed by one space, your last name, and then your first name. See example
Birthday Card Hooker Martina.psd
Note: Be sure to leave the files extension (.psd) at the end of the file name. Also, be sure to include the same spacing as example above and do not add any other characters
7. Start Following Book Instructions on Page 13
Open the book to page 13 and start following instructions with step 1.
8. Zooming Tips not in Book

9. Edit > Undo
You can undo mistakes easily with the shortcut for Edit >Undo wich is
COMMAND Z
10. Save Early and Save Often
You should save your work each time you make changes
Don't save if you made a mistake (See section 9 above about undoing mistakes)
11. Creative Card File Set Up
Make sure Photoshop is not running
Hold down 3 keys on your keyboard: Command, Option, and Shift
While holding those 3 keys, start up Photoshop
Click "Yes" in the delete PS setting dialog box
File > New.
On the RIGHT SIDE of the NEW DOCUMENT window, do the following:
Follow example below to replace the "Untitled" file the file name
Save on your computer
12. Search for an Internet Image
Activate CHROME and do an IMAGE search for something that is well suited for a background for text. Search Ideas:
To the right and just below where you typed in your search text, click on TOOLS. To the left, find SIZE and choose LARGE
Check PIXEL DIMENSIONS by clicking on the a THUMBNAIL to access the
Choose an image that has the pixel dimension of at least 1500 x 2100
13. Add Internet Image to Your Creative Card file
Control-Click on the full sized Internet image (not the thumbnail) to view the context menu (See Screenshot Below)
Choose "Copy Image"
Activate your Original Card file
Edit > Paste (See Screenshot Left)
14. Scale Internet Image Down as Needed
Make sure the Internet Image layer highlighted in the layers panel
Edit > Free Transform
Click on a corner tab and scale down as needed. If your image is too small, do not scale up because doing so will reduce image quality. Search for a new larger image instead.
Press the √ in the OPTIONS bar to commit the transformation (or press the return key)
Use the MOVE TOOL to reposition as needed
15. Use the Book Instructions to Do the Following:
Reflection & Self Grading
Include a Reflection & Self-Grading
Include a REFLECTION: What were you SUCCESSFUL at? What did you STRUGGLE with?
Also include what GRADE you think you deserve.
