Shades & Tints
SHADES:
- Color in the same color wheel colors again in the ring that's just outside the ring of the 12 pure colors.
- Add black to create shades
TINTS:
- Very lightly, to allow the white paper to show through, color in the same color wheel colors again in the outer ring to create tints.
- By letting the white paper show through, you are adding white to create tints
7. Mixing Complements
Complementary Colors are pairs of colors that are positioned directly opposite each other on the color wheel
Complementary colors create the most contrast and are very useful for making things like text or objects stand out more
Mixing a color with its complement is a way to lower its intensity. Instead of using black to create shadows, artists often use complement mixing to create a richer more dynamic look
