SWBAT:

1..make SEPARATE TEXT PATHS and understand how text PATHS are DIFFERENT from text FRAMES

2...use the CHARACTER PANEL to choose a FONT that suits AUDIENCE & PURPOSE

3...use the EYEDROPPER tool to format the text consistently

4...REVIEW other ways to make theTEXT look CONSISTENT


2.  Learn About Text Paths

1. TEXT PATHS are...

1...Great for SINGLE WORDS or LINES of TEXT like your COLOR PAGE LABLES

2...SCALABLE with the SELECTION TOOL

3. CREATED by CLICKING (NOT DRAGGING) with the TYPE Tool

4. TRICKY because they can easily get DISTORTED.


3. Learn About Text Frames

1.  TEXT FRAMES are...

1...Great for MULTIPLE LINES or PARAGRAPHS of TEXT

2...NOT SCALABLE with the SELECTION TOOL

3. CREATED by CLICKING & DRAGGING with the TYPE Tool.

4. TRICKY because the FRAME SIZE has to be MANAGED

Color Page Definitions (Extra Credit)

4. Open Your Color Page

1.  You should be as far along as the sample shown left.

2. If you are behind, please participate in today's lesson before you work on catching up.

3. Catch up in class after the lesson or come to the Mac Lab during a free period

5.  Open the Character Panel

1.  Hit the TAB key to close your tool box and all your palettes

In step 3 you will reopen just what you need for today's lesson

2. Now open what you'll need for today:

WINDOW MENU > Control, Tools, Type > Character (Command T is the shortcut for the Character Panel)

3. Check your neighbor to see that he/she has done it correctly

6.  Explore Different Fonts - Make Multiple Text Paths

1. Select the TYPE TOOL

2. CLICK (DO NOT DRAG) on your file and type in the words "Color Wheel"

3. Click on the selection tool to DESELECT the text

4. Select the TYPE TOOL again and click AGAIN (DO NOT DRAG) to create a new separate text path and type in the words "Value Scale"

5. Click on the selection tool to DESELECT the text

6. Select the Type Tool again and click again (DO NOT DRAG) to create a new separate text path and type in the words "Contrast of Value"

7. Repeat the process for the last 3 text paths: "Unity of Value", "Unity of Color" and "Contrast of Color"

7. Format Text Consistently

1. Select ONE TEXT PATH

2. CHOOSE a plain or decorative font that is EASY TO READ and matches the purpose of your color page.

3. SCALE your text path with the SELECTION TOOL and make it at least 18 pt in size 

4. Use the Selection Tool to SELECT text path that your IS NOT FORMATTED yet.

5. Select the EYEDROPPER

6. With the EYEDROPPER, click on the text you ALREADY FORMATTED, to pull that text formatting into the selected text path

TIPS:

The Character Palette will let you EASILY PREVIEW fonts Window > Type > Character (Command T)

Scale by holding shift and clicking and dragging on the corner tab, look in the Type Palette/Control Bar  to CHECK POINT SIZE 

Professional page layout artists always format text consistently to create an easy to read and attractive looking layout..

8. Review and Apply Consistent Case Formatting

OPTIONS:

• ALL CAPS (UPPER CASE)

• Title Case (Mixed Case)

• all lower case


1. Review your work and make sure you have used the SAME CASE FORMATTING for EVERY TEXT PATH

9. Scale and Reposition for Organization

1. Make your page look organized by:

• REPEATING SIZES and SPACES of your ILLUSTRATIONS and TEXT.

• LINING up ILLUSTRATIONS on HORIZONTALS & VERTICALS

10. Assessment

1. Save your work before you hand it in!

2. Click on the Submit Folder Link for your class below
