Testimony against neighbour

Testimony against neighbour

(Verses 28 and 29 of Chapter 24 in Proverbs are clubbed together).Be not a witness against thy neighbour without cause; and deceive not with thy lips (Proverbs 24:28).

Say not, I will do so to him as he hath done to me: I will render to the man according to his work (Proverbs 24:29).

Without just and sufficient cause you should not act against your neighbour in the society or in any legal forum. Your lips should not utter anything to entangle your neighbour who has performed a good deed. Even if your neighbour is worthy of a fault (and not a crime) for a good deed performed by him, you should not appear as a witness against him. But at the same time, if you are forced to give a testimony, you should not give a false testimony with your lips. Either you can avoid appearing as a witness or you can give a truthful testimony.

Your testimony should not be to take revenge upon your neighbour but without malice. It has to be on merits or just.
