Fear of a king

Fear of a king

The fear of a king is as the roaring of a lion: whoso provoketh him to anger sinneth against his own soul (Proverbs 20:2).

We need to fear the ruler or the king because his law or commandments roar as a lion to be heard by us. We cannot claim innocence. Ignorance of law is no excuse. If we obey the lawful orders of our ruler, we can save ourselves. If we challenge his authority, we incur his wrath. We challenge his law of righteousness at our own peril by hiding the truth and telling the falsehood. If we do so, we commit sin against our own souls. A ruler is a God's servant to execute judgment on the evil doers. If we disobey him, we disobey God.
