I know that, in big cities, we have many facilities, such as spacious parks, cinemas, libraries and so on. But, there are several drawbacks to believing that big cities are the best places to live. I disagree with the idea that big cities are the best places to live. I have two points to make.
My first reason is that living in big cities is very stressful. This is because life there is very busy and competitive.
Take commuting, for example. Generally speaking, we spend an hour or more on crowded trains. Or we have to endure rush-hour traffic on our way to and from work. It's often said that “love is blind ”. Literally speaking, especially during the dating period of a relationship, it's impossible to see a loved one as he or she really is. Furthermore, married people must compromise on at least something - large or small - every day. I disagree with the idea of getting married. I have two points to make.
The first reason for supporting this opinion is that it's difficult to find the right person for you.
To be specific, about 27% of all first marriages in Japan are estimated to end in divorce. Divorce makes us both mentally and physically tired. It also hurts us financially. If we get married with the wrong person, we have to deal with disagreeable traits, habits, and finally, probable divorce. As a result we may experience emotional and financial distress.
The second reason for supporting the negative side is compromise. To be specific, marriage and later parenthood restrict one's freedom. We can't pursue our hobbies with zeal, like playing a role-playing game (RPG) all night long. In a sense, we have to put up with our spouses' mood - good or bad - all the time. Plus, once we have children, we have to take care of them２4/ 7 until they become independent. Besides, children are also a great financial burden. Therefore, we can't spend our hard-earned money freely.
In a nutshell, there is no guarantee when choosing a person to marry. Marriage is like the lottery. We don't have to risk staking our life on the possibility of choosing the correct marriage partner. Remaining single, we can live happily. For these reasons, I disagree with the idea of getting married.

I believe separate houses are pricier than apartment buildings, especially in urban areas. Moreover, an apartment's floor has no raised thresholds and is therefore, barrier-free. The older you get, the harder it is to walk over bumps. Therefore I believe living in apartment buildings is apt for elderly people.
Tim : I don't think you get my point. I prefer living in detached houses because I value my privacy and would like my own space. We each have our own preferences and opinions about the type of housing we want. Let's face it. You can't force your ideas on me.
