“Even just showing up for 2 minutes make a vote towards who you want to become.“ In this episode I share a few of my thoughts on the progress I am making with some of the things that I learned from the Atomic habits and how some of that knowledge and advice has affected the goals and things I want to do and become. I report on a few things that I am doing well and some that I am struggling with. And hopefully by the end of the podcast you find a way to stay committed to your goals even when it feels hard to be motivated as we approach the middle of February.
Show Notes: Hi Friends! I hope you enjoyed listening to this episode. Below are all the references.
Since there were not a lot of references here I wanted to just write down the few things that have been helpful to me so far from the Atomic Habits book by James Clear and with the 4 C's.
The 2 minute Rule - This has been helpful not only for me to get started doing things but it also has been good as I help reestablish some habits for my kids with their jobs. Doing something for 2 minutes is easy. So with the 2 minute rule you break it down into somethings easy that will only take two minutes. You can also simply start doing something and say to yourself I am going to just do this for 2 minutes, you may do more you may do less but it gets you started. This has helped with my decluttering of my storage room and also reminded my kids each day to do their jobs, just 2 minutes to start.
It is all worth it - One of my big takeaways from the 4 C's. The more you do to create, cultivate, and contribute the better it is for you soul. So if something takes a long time to make or to read or to really do anything that is all ok. I ended up making honey wheat bread and a baked Alaska. The bread turned out amazing however the baked Alaska had a few issues with the meringue.
Consuming is easy and many times I end up doing more of that than anything else. But hey maybe that is just the way of it. Do you best to have a balance but in our culture today I think if there are days when it ends up more consuming that is all good.
Taking is slow can be hard especially when we just want the results now. But it is easy to get burned out so the advice to break things down and slowly get habits and systems started is super helpful in the long run. That has been helping me too. I got a new stationary bike and notice that I really can only do it one day a week for about 20 minutes. I am starting slow and will build up to more time. But then I know I will keep trying with this new exercise for me.
The last thing is to remember to just keep going. Results and habits take time and many times way longer than you think. Maybe you just haven't gotten to that threshold yet. The thought about the ice cube and how you think nothing happening when the room is at 25 degrees and slowly heats up to 30 when it starts to melt but all that time there was something happening. So keep going.
Each day simply making small choices that go toward who you want to be is a win. Let's go!
