Put First things First from 7 habits of highly effecitve people - Episode 98

“Manage from the left; lead from the right” This week, I go over Habit 3 - put first things first from 7 Habits of highly effective people by Stephen R. Covey. Habit 3 really gets into how you can practically put your two other habits into practice. This Habit is about self-management which is a lot easier when you have your own mission statement and philosophy to follow. There are a lot of very good practical tips to help organize and plan your week, especially thinking about your week in terms of your roles in life. Habit 3 really helps pull habit 1 and 2 together in a very applicable way.

Things I learned this week: This week had a lot of really practical ways to apply what we have learned from both habit 1 and habit 2. It is all about learning to live a majority of our life in quadrant 2 - things that are important but not urgent. See a picture below of the 4 quadrants. The most practical part is to have your roles and the goals you have for those roles and then plan out your life a week at a time. You also have your mission statement in front of you so that you can always remember what principles you decided to live you life by. It seems so simple and yet planning your week by your roles and goals rather than being subject to your calendar helps you lean more into quadrant 2.
