On Wednesday, April 7th, at 7pm, please join us as we commemorate Yom HaShoah with our community via Zoom Livestream.
Yom HaShoah is a Holocaust Remembrance Day. The date of this commemoration is according to the Hebrew Calendar. To understand the importance of this day, at this event, we will be hearing from Sol Nayman, speaker and Holocaust survivor and participating in a Q&A session led by York Senior School student Ruby Grinberg.
Sol Nayman was born in Poland in 1935. His family was fortunate to escape to the forest tracing a path to the east, eventually making their way to the Soviet Union. As the war drew to a close, they made their way back to the west, to Ukraine and eventually Germany itself, where they found themselves in the Wetzlar Displaced Persons Camp. There, life slowly came back to a state of relative normalcy and after several years the family managed to emigrate to Canada. Sol attended school, where he excelled, setting him on a path for success in later life opening fashion brand Club Monaco. Now retired, Sol is active in Holocaust education, and a participant in the March of the Living, sharing his story with students across the world.
Sol will be sharing his story with our community, discussing the importance of Holocaust education, combatting Antisemitism and racism, genocide awareness and his experience with the March of the Living.
We are lucky to have the opportunity to hear from Sol. Sharing stories is a vital aspect of education so we can keep the memory of these brave survivors alive. The amount of opportunities to learn from personal testimony is diminishing, so we urge our community to take part in this event to learn and reflect.
We hope you will all join us in this educational, commemoratory evening on Wednesday, April 7th, at 7pm. You can access the event by scanning the QR code on the poster or CLICKING HERE.
