Grade 12 Students,
It is hard to believe that there is less than a month to go of school and your graduation is around the corner. Since the winter break, it has been amazing to watch you continue to lead the school, keep York Spirits up and support one another. You have much to be proud of and your graduation will be a celebration of an amazing class made up of amazing students. We are very proud of you all!
As you look forward to life "Beyond York" and the fall, we wanted to provide you with some important information on how to best prepare your computer and data for next year.
After graduation, we will leave your school accounts open until around October, after which we start to delete them. We will continue to maintain your email account until October so that should you need to receive communications from universities or other important contacts you have the ability to do so.
In order to take your York School data with you there are two options available:
Option # 1 - Transfer Ownership from your York School Google Account to your personal Google Account. (Click here for an overview Video)
Google Transfer - https://takeout.google.com/transfer
***This option is for students who already have personal google accounts with enough free space to allow all their York School content to be transferred. You may consider buying additional storage from Google to accommodate your files if you require more than what is provided by Google for free 15GB . Purchase here: https://one.google.com/storage
Google Transfer Slide deck - Click here for a step by step guide
Option # 2 - DOWNLOAD with Google Takeout (Overview video)
Google Takeout: https://takeout.google.com/settings/takeout
***The easiest option is to Download a copy of all of your files to a usb stick or hard drive drive. All you need for this step is some sort of storage (USB, SD, your Hard Drive) with enough room to hold all of the files. This video explains how to use Google Takeout to download any data that you want to take with you (video, pictures, extended essay etc).
Preparing your Computer (Off-boarding)
Under normal operational circumstances, we would have asked you to drop by the IT department with your laptop and we would have prepared for next year. For MAC users it means deleting and removing all of the York School software and for the PC users is means restoring the machine to factory settings. We do this because the software on your machines is licenced by the York School and will stop working in the fall. Programmes like Adobe Creative Cloud, Microsoft office, Sophos anti-virus all require York licenses. We usually remove these applications so that you do not run into issues next year. Since we do not have access to the IT department at this time we have provided a support video for the MAC users and have set up a third-party support relationship for the PC. In either case, if you need any help please email our support team at helpdesk@yorkschool.com and we can coordinate a call to talk through the steps.
Students with MACs
This video shows and explains how you can safely delete the software from your MAC and prepare it for next year - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WY_8Kqd2ric&feature=youtu.be. As you begin this process and should you need any help please email our support team at helpdesk@yorkschool.com and we can coordinate a call.
Students with PCs
There are not many PC users in the Grade 12 cohort so we have arranged a relationship with https://www.topteksystem.com/contact/ who can help assist with this process. Please email helpdesk@yorkschool.com when you are ready to restore your machine to "new" we will help facilitate the support process and coordinate with the https://www.topteksystem.com/ team on where and how you can drop off your Machine. Should we get access to 1320 again we may able be able to provide a drop-off service at school. We will let you know if that is an option.
Congratulations on your upcoming graduation and best of luck on the road ahead.
Mr. Medved
