Hi, I'm Saskia! I've been doing artwork for as long as I can remember, probably ever since I could hold a pencil or a brush! I took art classes in middle school, and I'm now taking it as my elective in high school, but I also just paint or draw whenever I get a chance. Building on that, my favourite medium would probably be acrylic paint, since I find it fun and easy to work with, but I also enjoy sketching in pencil and playing around with new mediums. I'm most comfortable working on landscapes or more abstract things, but I find it fun to attempt portraits and faces since I want to improve on those. One thing in particular that I want to get better at is working with oil paints, and doing portraits specifically in that medium.
Often, I struggle with completing paintings and pieces of work, or I just lose motivation. As you can see, my paintings of the mountain and the three faces are works in progress, so that's why they look unfinished. I have a few things I do when art block strikes. Sometimes, if I just need more inspiration for a piece, I'll research or take a look at works from various artists I like, or I'll go out into nature and find beauty outdoors. If I'm just unmotivated, I'll let the piece sit for a day or so, and then come back to it with a new perspective and new ideas. Also, while I'm working I like to listen to music, which helps me stay focused and feeling creative. If you want to find some new artists, a few that I admire are Pablo Picasso and Glenn Brown (for portraits) and Thomas Cole for landscapes. Finally, my favourite quote/question isn't necessarily about art, it's "How do we forgive ourselves for all the things we don't do?" I think it's applicable to art nonetheless, because every time I think about it, it is another motivator for me to paint or do something that I've put off, since life is too short to procrastinate :) I hope you enjoy taking a look at my art pieces, and maybe they'll motivate you to create something too!
