These devices can appear as an amulet or a stone.
When held in a bare hand for at least 1 round, an inscription will appear in the primary language of the possessor, "Prevail".
This device grants the possessor a +1 bonus to saving throws versus magical effects including spells, spell-like abilities, magic item effects, or magical innate abilities.
The scarab will alter the effect of any magical, but not supernatural, effect—that does not grant a saving throw. The possessor will be granted a saving throw against the effect (in the appropriate category) with a base save of 20 (including the +1 bonus granted by the scarab). Otherwise, all normal saving throw adjustments will adjust the chance of success.
If the possessor is affected by an energy drain or magical death effect, the scarab will absorb the attack against a maximum of 12 charges when full/unused. Once the scarab reaches 0 charges, it turns to dust. This protection includes level draining and necromantic [death] effects. In the case of energy drain, each level of energy drain will consume 1 charge.
Attunement. The device must be worn or carried continuously for 24 hours before it will attune to the possessor.
Cursed Version. If the device is generated randomly, 5% (d%; 01-05) will possess a minor curse and the item will grant a -2 penalty to saving throws versus magic instead of +1. If the curse is lifted with a remove curse effect of level 16 or higher, 20% (d%; 01-20) of the time, the curse will be gone forever, and the now-uncursed item grants double the bonus and double the charges.
