This ring will grant the wearer a magical bonus to armor class and saving throws.
The wearer gains the indicated (see the table) bonus to armor class and all saving throws (each +1 is equal to +5% on a d% or a bonus of 1 for saves tied to ability scores).
Not counting cloaks of protection, all other items offering a "protection" bonus to both armor class and all saves are considered the same protection as offered by the ring of protection. If multiple rings of protection are worn, only the highest bonus will be effective. Any item other than a cloak of protection that does not explicitly state it stacks with a ring of protection will not stack.
Any magical enhancements to armor and/or shields will not stack with a ring of protection. Thus, wearing +1 chain mail and a +1 shield with a +2 ring of protection offers an AC 2 / AD 4 and a +2 bonus to all saves (but no additional armor bonus to saves). If the shield is stowed, the wearer's armor class becomes AC 3 / AD 5. A ring of protection works normally with mundane armor, bracers of defense, an armor spell, a shield spell, or no armor.
Most rings offer a "protection" bonus as described above. However some types of rings offer a slightly different variation:
A ring offering a saving throw radius benefits (for saving throws only) any creature in the radius or any creature within melee with the wearer (the ring will not distinguish allies or opponents).
A ring with different components AC vs. saves, means the protection value is different for AC than for saving throws. In the case of magical armor or other types of stacking, the highest value is used. Thus, wearing a ring of protection (+4 AC; +2 saves) along with +3 chain mail means the wearer has an AC 1 / AD 5 and gains +2 to all saves. If the wearer makes an armor save, they gain a +3 bonus to that save (inclusive of the +2 bonus, not stacking with it, thus, a +1 incremental bonus to the armor save).
