This staff is used as a melee weapon capable of doing a surprising amount of damage per strike.
Once the staff is grasped, it imparts its abilities to the wielder as well as the number of charges remaining in the staff.
Striking. [melee] (immediate) Every successful melee attack includes the striking ability and consumes one charge. The wielder can increase the number of charges used to do more damage.
The staff strikes as a +3 magic weapon (this includes a +3 magic weapon bonus to attack rolls).
The staff always gains a favorable adjustment for armor defense vs. any AD. See Armor Defense Adjustments below.
When the staff hits, damage is 1d6+3 blunt damage (base) and 1 charge is consumed.
If the wielder uses 2 charges, the staff instead does 2d6+6 blunt damage (base).
If the wielder uses 3 charges, the staff instead does 3d6+9 blunt damage (base).
Base damage is adjusted as usual for Strength, magical effects, etc.
The staff can be used more than once per round if the wielder has multi-strike, etc. The wielder can specify charges used separately per strike.
The wielder can also use more than one charge when using the staff for free attacks.
Armor Defense Adjustments. When attacking a creature with an armor defense rating, the staff gains the most favorable adjustment due to melee weapon type (excluding the lance and a fist). Note that this is an adjustment to the defender's AC, not a bonus to the attack roll. A negative value means the defender's AC is worse by that amount. A defender's AC cannot be worse than AC 10.
AD 10: -3 AC adjustment (to a minimum AC of 10)
AD 9: -2 AC adjustment (to a minimum AC of 10)
AD 8: -2 AC adjustment (to a minimum AC of 10)
AD 7: -3 AC adjustment (to a minimum AC of 10)
AD 6: -3 AC adjustment (to a minimum AC of 10)
AD 5: -2 AC adjustment (to a minimum AC of 10)
AD 4: -2 AC adjustment (to a minimum AC of 10)
AD 3: -2 AC adjustment (to a minimum AC of 10)
AD 2: -2 AC adjustment (to a minimum AC of 10)
If all charges are used, the staff crumbles to dust.
Charges. Staves of this type will have 2d12+1 charges when found and each use will consume a single charge. The staff can be recharged by using an enchant an item ritual.
