This small tapered candle is covered in religious runes.
Each candle found with be made for a specific alignment, each one of Good and Evil. Each candle also radiates an aura of the appropriate type with respect to Good or Evil (detectable by spell or ability).
If a cleric lights one of these candles and their alignment exactly matches that of the candle, they are granted a boon from their deity that grants the cleric two temporary experience levels while the candle is lit (and they are within the light of the flame) to a maximum of four hours. It is a complex activity to light a candle (or less if open flame is nearby).
The temporary experience levels grant all abilities associated with the new level (Hit points, AAC0, Saves, Turning/Commanding, Class abilities, Spell caster level, etc.). Any spells granted by the new levels can also be accessed, but must be prepared as normal (resting is not necessary).
Alternately, a candle of invocation can be used in a special ritual that must be declared before the flame is lit. This ritual creates a gate (as per the spell although there is no aging; caster level 12). Once the gate opens, the flame is extinguished yet the gate remains until the consequence of the gate is dealt with and it closes normally.
Each candle can be used only once and remains magical while the candle burns. If the invoker leaves the light radius of the candle, the flame goes out. Once the flame is extinguished, the candle becomes mundane.
The flame burns as would any mundane candle and can be extinguished with a puff of air or bit of water. The candle can be placed in a lantern or other container to protect the flame.
If a cleric whose alignment does not exactly match that of the candle, or any other creature, lights the candle, the candle becomes mundane (but still puts out light for up to four hours as would a mundane candle).
