This metal helm allows the wearer to see and breathe underwater
The wearer gains the following abilities. When donned, the helm communicates all of the abilities to the wearer except the command word. Activating either feature of the helm is a minor action.
Underwater Vision. The wearer can activate lenses embedded in the helm to deploy across the wearer's eyes. When looking through the lenses, the wearer, if underwater, can see through unobstructed water 5 times better than typical land-based humanoids in any given light condition. The lenses also correct for common distance distortion and depth perception issues. The lenses won't correct for color absorption. Figure normal vision is approximately 100-ft. in good conditions in large bodies of salt water at depths less than 50-ft.; theoretically optimal conditions allow vision closer to 200-ft. Thus, the wearer can see approximately 500-ft. in good conditions using the magical lenses—assuming no obstructions and a very low amount of suspended particles in the water (turbidity). Typical conditions for coastal waters would be closer to 125-ft. and for fresh water, 50-ft.
Globe of Air. If the wearer verbalizes the command word when underwater, the helm generates a continuously replenished and refreshed globe of breathable air around the helm (encompassing the wearer's head). The wearer can breathe normally and is immune to the effects of water pressure due to gases in their body (e.g. decompression sickness oxygen toxicity, etc.). While the wearer can speak normally while underwater, only creatures within 5-ft. can hear them.
Wearing this helm is considered to be wearing metal armor with regard to class restrictions and is similar to a helm that would accompany chain mail (AC/AD 5). The helm resizes to fit Small to Man-sized humanoids (without head protusions such as horns).
