This legendary hammer (rumored to be forged by Moradin himself) is made to kill giants.
Description. This hammer has a long haft and is maul-shaped and feels unbalanced due to the heavy head. It is otherwise rather plain.
The maul cannot be wielded unless the wielder has a 18/01 or greater Strength and is at least 6-ft. tall. It will operate as +3 maul that does double damage dice when a hit is scored. In addition, the final damage result is increased by 6 points.
If the wielder is wearing a girdle of giant strength and a pair of gauntlets of ogre power, they can call upon the power of the maul if the weapon's true name is known:
The weapon then operates as a +5 maul that does double damage dice when a hit is scored. In addition, the final damage result is increased by 6 points.
Any true giant struck by the weapon is slain (no save).
When used as a missile weapon, the maul can be thrown 10-ft plus 5-ft. per point of Strength damage bonus (equal to the bonus from the girdle + 6) without range penalties. The weapon then returns to the wielder's hands.
When the maul strikes as a missile weapon, a great clap of thunder sounds, and all within a 30-ft radius of the target (including the target) will be stunned for 1 round (no save).
The maul is difficult to throw and the wielder cannot throw it on adjacent rounds. In addition, if thrown 5 times in any 20 round period, the wielder becomes exhausted for 10 rounds (and must rest during the 10 rounds to remove the condition).
XP Award. If the true power of the maul cannot be used (no girdle and gauntlets or the name is unknown), the XP amount is equal to that of a +3 weapon.
