This rod removes all magic from a touched magic item.
Once the rod is grasped, it imparts its abilities of cancellation to the possessor.
Cancellation. [innate; dispel] (major) The wielder can cancel all magic on a touched object. If the target object is in possession of another creature, the wielder must make a successful contact attack. The target object must be accessible and at least partially uncovered or in an obvious location. i.e. a hilt of a weapon can be touched, a ring can be affected even through a gauntlet—However, an item fully contained in a pouch or pack with other magic items cannot be targeted. If a quiver or similar container is targeted, all ammunition contained within can be targeted (as if they were one object; This is typically only useful versus ammunition). If the contact attack misses, the rod has no effect and does not use it's one "charge". The wielder can choose to attack with the rod as a weapon (light mace) rather than a contact attack. In any case, the wielder must name the item targeted (e.g. "my opponent's long sword", or "my opponent's right hand ring", etc.) before attacking or the rod will not work. A "called shot" is not necessary for the rod to affect an item worn, wielded, or carried—A normal (successful) contact attack or melee weapon attack will affect the targeted item. Once an item is touched, the rod will attempt to drain the object's magic:
* Items that possess an overall rating of +5 or +6 are 15% less likely to be cancelled (see the Magic Item Tables).
Items that are cancelled become mundane and have no magical power.
Objects not listed—for example a door with a magical ward on it—can be affected and are treated as a wondrous item.
If an extra-dimensional container is cancelled, all items within are lost in the Astral plane.
Nothing can restore magical power to a cancelled item, not even avatar-level wish magic (per the GM).
Structures are not considered "objects" for the purposes of this rod (and thus, engravings, etchings, inlays, etc. on a structure cannot be affected by the rod).
Some avatar-level objects are so powerful they cannot be affected by this rod (per the GM).
Charges. A rod of cancellation that successful cancels the magic of another item becomes mundane itself.
