This metal helm allows the wearer to communicate with another creature using their mind.
The wearer gains the following abilities. There are no charges or limitations on use other than those listed. When donned, the helm communicates all of the abilities to the wearer.
Detect Thoughts. [complex, concentration] The wearer can detect the thoughts of one target creature in range within line of sight. This ability works as per the magic-user spell ESP.
Telepathic Communication. [complex, concentration] Once a creature's surface thoughts have been detected, the wearer can communicate with the target. If the wearer and the target speak the same language, the wearer can use this language to communicate mentally with the target. The wearer will not necessarily know what languages are spoken by the target. Creatures will be thinking in the language they are speaking in (if talking), their primary racial language, a regional tongue, Common (if known), or the language being used in the area they are located (in this order). If the target does not speak a language (or there is no shared language), the wearer can send rudimentary emotions signifying the wearer's emotions (only). The target of any communication will immediately know the location of the wearer.
Telepathic Projection. [complex, concentration] If the wearer and the target share a language, telepathic communication has been established, and the target possesses the continuous ability of telepathy or ESP (or they are employing a non-continuous effect of that type), the wearer can implant a psionic suggestion (caster level 12). The target must make a Wisdom save vs. Wand or be compelled to follow the wearer's suggestion as per the spell for a duration of up to 13 hours or until complete (save negates for 1 hour). Once the suggestion is implanted into the target's mind, the wearer does not need to concentrate or communicate with the target. The standard adjustments for reasonable suggestions do not apply, but a special adjustment must be determined if the wearer and the target do not possess the same Intelligence score:
If the wearer has an Intelligence score higher than the target, the target suffers a -1 penalty to the saving throw for every 2 points of differential (if the creature's Intelligence is listed as a range, roll for the score within the range).
If the wearer has an Intelligence score lower than the target, the target gains a +1 bonus to the saving throw for every point of differential (if the creature's Intelligence is listed as a range, roll for the score within the range).
Psionic Defense. The wearer gains a +4 bonus to saving throws versus [psionic] based effects. If attacked by a psionic blast effect, and the wearer makes a successful saving throw, the attacker will be stunned due to a backlash effect for 1d4 rounds (no save). Note: If the wearer is using one of the helm's abilities (and concentrating) when attacked by a psionic blast, they lose the +4 bonus to their save (see also psionic blast). If the wearer is the target of a phantasmal killer spell or effect, the wearer suffers a -3 penalty to their save, but if successful, the spell will be turned and will affect the caster instead.
Some barriers will block the detection or communication: Any amount of lead or gold (forming a contiguous barrier or sheet); 3-ft. of stone; or 1/4-inch plating or sheeting of iron.
Wearing this helm is considered to be wearing metal armor with regard to class restrictions and is similar to a helm that would accompany chain mail (AC/AD 5). The helm resizes to fit Small to Man-sized humanoids (without head protusions such as horns).
