Most magic items cannot be recharged. Those that can be recharged are noted and, in most cases, a "recharge spell" will be noted along with the spell's required caster level (CL). In addition, the spell, enchant an item must be cast to prepare the item for charging. In this case, the item itself is the material component.
Important Note. Any item completely drained of all charges cannot be recharged.
The process to recharge a magic item is as follows.
A spell caster must cast enchant an item while holding the item to be recharged. The casting time is 10 minutes (in this case) to activate the spell. The caster must then maintain concentration while holding the item to keep it "open" to receive the recharge spells.
The item is then prepared for recharging for up to 6 hours.
Once the item is prepared, another caster may then cast the recharge spell and touch the item in question, channeling the magic into the item. This represents a slight modification to the casting of the spell and adds 10 segments to it's normal casting time. If the caster level does not match the caster level requirement, the item will not take the spell and the item will not gain a charge.
For each casting of the recharge spell, 1 charge will be renewed.
Each time an enchant an item spell is used to prepare an item for recharging, the item will lose 10% of it's total capacity. Thus, when recharging a wand for the first time, the maximum number of charges that wand will hold is 90 charges (from a previous maximum of 100).
Once the process is finished, the caster of enchant an item will complete the spell to seal the magic (or the charges will be lost).
