This appears to be a typical large sack.
A bag of devouring appears to be an ordinary large sack. Detection for magical properties makes it seem as if it were a either (d%; 01-90) a bag of holding (type II) or, rarely (91-00), a bag of beans.
The sack is, however, a lure used by an extradimensional creature—in fact, one of its feeding orifices.
Any organic substance is subject to “swallowing” if thrust within the bag.
The bag of devouring that mimics a bag of holding is 90% likely to ignore any initial intrusion, but any time thereafter that it senses living flesh within (such as if someone reaches into the bag to pull something out), it is 60% likely (d%; 01-60) to close around the offending member and attempt to draw the whole victim in (see consume victim). If objects are placed within the bag, each hour there is a 5% cumulative chance of the creature swallowing the contents and then spitting the stuff out in some non-space or into some other plane.
The bag of devouring that mimics a bag of beans will attempt to consume the first creature that reaches in and touches a stone.
Consume Victim. (immediate) If the bag attempts to consume a victim, the bag closes tight around any member reaching within and the creature attached to that member will feel itself getting sucked within. If the victim struggles, the bag will consume them with a base* 70% chance (d%; 01-70) that the victim is drawn completely (and immediately) into the bag. Otherwise (71-00), the victim frees themself and drops the bag. If a victim is drawn within the bag, they will be fully consumed (gone/dead) at the end of the following round. During the round, the victim finds themself in an approximately 6-ft. diameter space with stretchy sides. The victim is considered partially bound and cannot ambulate (they are trapped in the bag). If another creature opens the bag, the opener can attempt to drag an unconsumed victim out with the same base chance (i.e. a roll of 71-00 will free them). If the attempt to free the victim fails, the bag closes and the victim slips from the grasp of the one attempting to drag them free and their limb is ejected from the bag. The bag falls, empty to the ground. Anything in the bag with the victim is also gone. Attempting to drag a creature out of the bag is a major action (the opener must be within 10-ft. of the bag when the round begins to attempt the dragging)—however, even opening the bag (a minor action) allows the one trapped within another roll to free themselves.
* Adjustment for Strength. If the victim or one trying to free them has a Strength melee damage adjustment, this will lower the chance of being consumed by 5% per plus. For example, if the victim has a 18/55 Strength score (which grants a +3 melee damage adjustment), the chance of being consumed is 55% (01-55). If they are drawn in and the one attempting to free them has a 17 Strength (+1 adjustment), the chance to free them (assuming both work together) is 50% (01-50 means the victim is consumed).
If a victim is consumed, the victim’s body is totally gone (destroyed) and this prevents any form of raising or resurrection that requires part of the corpse. There is a 50% chance that a wish spell can restore a devoured victim to life. Check once for each destroyed creature. If the check fails, the creature cannot be brought back to life by mortal magic.
If the bag contains "stones", and these are dumped out, they will explode as would the beans from a bag of beans.
Turning a magical bag inside out does nothing (the extradimensional area remains around the hole in the bag).
If the bag is destroyed anything within is lost (and the creature is unharmed).
