Leeftijd
LEEFTIJD
Dan ziet men zwartomlijnd geschreven staan:
AGE
From childhood on you always are too old:
Too old for cradle or for mother’s breast,
Too old to kick your sister, be a pest,
And when you’re sad, too old to be consoled.
You are too old, the phrase becomes a bore,
Too old to be behaving like a lout,
Too old for chasing skirts and drinking bouts
and all the other things you hungered for.
Also for loans or mortgaging your home,
A new career, a fast cabriolet
You have a lifelong Too-Old-Age Syndrome.
But when at last your final hour has come
Then, framed in black, one reads the words that say:
Too young - he was too young to pass away.
