SocrateCloud offers the possibility to define non-monetary units of measure. If you define conversions for a certain unit of measure, you can operate transactions of sale, transport, invoicing, acquisition and reception type in any of the units of measure defined for a product.
Units of measure can be defined in the Unit of Measure window located in the Product Setup menu. The following fields are available:
UOM Code - indicates the data code EDI X12 355 (unit or basis of measure);
Name, Symbol, Description - are used to identify the unit of measure within the system;
Standard Precision - represents the number of decimals used for rounding on documents and transactions;
Costing Precision - represents the number of decimals used for rounding costs.
The Conversion tab is used to define conversion rates between units of measure. The system supplies a few automatic conversions between certain units of measure (e.g. minute, hour, day, business day, etc.). Conversions need to be defined directly (e.g. if there is a single conversion between A-B and B-C, the system cannot deduce the conversion between A-C. This needs to be explicitly defined). The following fields are available:
UOM To - the corresponding unit of measure for which the conversion rate is defined;
Product - the product that will use this conversion. Separate records need to be entered for each product relevant to the conversion;
Multiply Rate, Divide Rate - enter a multiply rate or divide rate to define the conversion rate;
the Multiply Rate has to be greater than 0 (e.g. if you have to do the conversion from a piece unit of measure to a package unit of measure (1 package = 6 pieces), then the multiply rate is equal to 0.16666666667).
Click on the Translation tab to get a translation for the respective unit of measure. If the documents are printed in different languages, the unit of measure is translated in the language used for Orders, Transport and Invoices.
Note: The Translation tab will only be displayed if the Show Translation Tabs option has been selected in User Preferences.
