Characters in The Fade Tabletop have 7 “Ability Scores” which represent aspects of the character, their prowess, and skills. Each one covers a general aspect of either their physical, mental, or social physique. The ability scores go as follows:
To start, each stats starts at 1. By spending points from their “Stat Points” as listed below, they can raise these stats to better levels.
Player Characters gain stat increases through class and species. These stats are limited to 10, and stats can only increase beyond 10 when bonuses are granted through items and other sources which state they break this rule. Stat advances from Species and Character Advancement cannot bring a character over 10.
Characters roll a number of dice equal to their stat’s number, and keep a number equal to half their stat number rounded up (minimum of 1). Example: 4 Strength means roll 4k2.
You receive 15 points to spend among your 7 ability scores.
After finishing Point Buy, you will need to go to the Character Advancement page next.
Character Recommendations
When creating a character using the Point Buy, it is recommended to acknowledge which is your "main stat" based on your class choice and the species you chose. Most class have one or two main stats which fuel most of their class abilities.
For most classes, decent Endurance and Agility are tantamount to survival - even if it isn't one of their main stats.
It is recommended characters aim for between a 6 - 8 in their main stat(s) if at all possible. Stats divisible by 4 are ideal (4, 8, 12, etc.)
Recommended Ability Score Distributions:
Alternate Point Buy
GMs are free to give players more points to spend on their stats if they wish to have "higher" or "lower" level games. For lower tier games, 5 to 10 points are reasonable while high tier games 20 to 25 point buy are a reasonable upper-end.
