In the core rules, vehicles are rarely touched upon and aren't given many concrete mechanics. This turns vehicles into plot devices and means of transportation as opposed to vessels to do battle, and chases. These alternate rules however give expanded rules to vehicles which make their usage more exciting. Advanced Classes such as the Pilot benefit from this.
In order to avoid players lacking the ability to take any actions during vehicular combat due to only one individual piloting, these rules include additional effects and actions which can be taken by passengers, co-pilots, engineers, and so on. This of course can be solved by having each player be a Pilot of their own small ship, or each player is the commander of a giant battleship of their own travelling under servitude of a superpower.
There are multiple types of vehicles; Land, Sea, Air, and Starship. Land vehicles include cars, bikes, and tanks. Sea vehicles include boats, battleships, and submarines. Air vehicles include planes, helicopters, and airships. Starship vehicles include fighters, bombers, and cruisers.
Movement and range in starship scale is greater than that of regular scale, however vehicle scale is in line with character scale.
Vehicles follow the same rules as players except as noted below:
HP: Non-engine based vehicles upon reaching 0 HP crash and become immobile 1d10 squares ahead. Engine-based vehicles start to skid until crashing or stopping, moving 3d10 squares ahead before stopping.
Sea vehicles slow and move 1d5 squares ahead before becoming immobile.
Air vehicles begin to crash, dropping 1d5+1 squares per turn from their height. Upon hitting a solid surface, the air vehicle explodes and everyone within it takes 10 damage (bypassing Soak).
Starships become completely immobile in space upon reaching 0 HP, moving 1 square ahead before stopping. Upon reaching negative HP, the ship begins to break apart and collapse and is unable to be saved - each turn the ship takes 1 damage (bypassing Soak). Upon reaching negative HP equal to its total HP, it explodes. All passengers take 50 damage (bypassing Soak).
