Rinse
8oz Chana Dal
in fresh water for an hour. Drain, and put them in pressure cooker with
1t salt
1/2t turmeric
2.5c water
Cook for about 10 minutes in the pressure cooker; cool, open the cooker, and test for done-ness. Add more water and cook longer if needed.
Meanwhile, heat
1T ghee or canola oil
and add
1 small onion, chopped
1 cm piece of fresh ginger root, finely chopped
1t chili powder (less if you don't like spicy stuff!)
Cook until browned a bit.
Serve over dal; garnish with
1T chopped cilantro
