Cribbed from here, and somewhat modified.
Preheat oven 350. Grease a loaf-pan lightly.
Whisk
1.5c flour
2t baking powder
1t kosher salt
3/4t turmeric
in the small mixer bowl.
In the large mixer bowl, grate
2 T zest from 1 lemon
add
1c granulated sugar
and blend well. Blend in
3/4c sour cream, or full fat greek yogurt, or 1/2c low-fat greek yogurt + 1/4c butter
2 large eggs
2T lemon juice from the zested lemon
and finally blend in
1 stick softened/melted butter.
From
another half-lemon
cut very thin slices, and cook them, about 1 min per side, in
2T sugar
1t water
to remove the bitterness. If the sugar mix starts to caramelize, add a little water. Set the candied slices aside for a moment.
Use a spatula to add
the liquid ingredients
to
the dry ingredients,
and fold them together until just blended. A few lumps are OK. Pour into
the greased bread-pan
level the batter with a spatula, and place
the candied lemon slices
on top, and sprinkle with about
1t granulated sugar
Bake until top is golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean, about 50 min. Cool briefly and remove to a cooling rack. Cool further before slicing.
