Here we go.... eLearning from Home work for Monday, March 16

First of all, please don't do all your daily assignments in one sitting. We take frequent breaks from working at our desks often throughout the day, when we go to specials classes, to lunch and recess, and when we take movement or meditation breaks. I suggest breaking up the work into 2-4 manageable chunks each day with breaks and playtime between. Your child should be capable of completing many of their assigned work with minimal help from parents, but students will likely need help locating and submitting the online assignments on the PearsonRealize site, at least at first. We are all new to this, so patience is key.
Some of the work for Reading, Math, and Science is assigned on the PearsonRealize eLearning platform. If you are having trouble accessing the website using either an iPad, desktop, or laptop computer, let me know with an email to loconnell@stlinusschool.org. Much of your work is in your textbooks and workbooks, with a few additional worksheet pages that were sent home. Doing your work in the order I've assigned it below will ensure you don't miss anything important.
MONDAY WORK:
Phonics: We are focusing on the consonant patterns kn, wr, gn, and mb. We will be reading and spelling words with silent consonants. Read pgs. 258-259 in your Reader and point out the words with silent consonants. Then complete Reading WB p. 409.
Spelling: The 15 Spelling words to learn this week are:

3. knee
4. wrong
5. write
6. climb
7. wrap
8. wren
9. gnat
10. lamb
11. comb
12. knob
13. certainly
14. listen
15. practice
Please copy all 15 carefully into your WWNB and notice that most have a silent consonant. Can you identify the ones that do not?
Vocabulary: Copy these 7 Vocab words into your WWNB and use the glossary in your Reader to write their definitions as we do each week in class. You may shorten the definitions in your Reader as long as you don't change the meaning of the word. Then complete Reading WB p. 410. The words are: chased, chewing, dripping, grabbed, practice, treat, wagged
Reading Comprehension: Review Plot and Theme, Background Knowledge on p. 260 in your Reader. Read Trouble at the Table on p. 261. Then complete Reading WB p. 411.
If you haven't already, now would be a good time for a break!
English: Complete pgs. 140-142 Contractions with Am, Is, and Are
Math: Head to the PearsonRealize website and login with your username and password. Assignments for Lesson 11-6 should be completed today. If you cannot access the site, don't worry! You can complete all the work in your book instead. We are completing pgs. 667-670 today. You DO NOT need to complete the Homework Practice pages unless you want to.
How about another break before the final stretch?
Science: We are beginning Chapter 3: Earth's Materials. For Monday, log on to the PearsonRealize site and watch the Untamed Science video assignment, then read and complete p. 121 in your textbook.
Religion: Read and complete pgs. 238-239 to understand the meaning of the Lord's Prayer.
Great job! Time to relax! If you're still looking for something to keep busy, read a book (especially one you can get Accelerated Reader points for,) earn some points for our class on Mathletics, or work on your eSpark quests. Please do not do your Tuesday work until Tuesday.
TUESDAY WORK:
Spelling: Review those silent consonant patterns by completing Reading WB p 413
Vocabulary: Read how words are related, or classified in Reader pgs. 262-263. Find all the words that tell what a rabbit can do in Rabbit Tricks. Then complete Reading WB p. 414.
Reading Comprehension: Use your Reader or your eText on the PearsonRealize site to read Bad Dog, Dodger!
English: Review pronouns I and Me by completing Reading WB p. 415. Then complete English pgs. 143-144 Contractions with Have and Has.
Have you had a break today yet? You deserve one!
Math: Lesson 11-7 on the PearsonRealize site or in your book, pgs. 673-676. Again, the Homework Practice pages are not assigned, so you do not have to do those.
Science: Begin Lesson 1 What are Some Kinds of Land and Water? by reading and completing pgs. 132-135 in your textbook.
Religion: Read Time for Prayer and complete the activities on pgs. 240-241.
If you're still looking for something to do, write a little in your Journal about how it feels to be doing schoolwork at home. Do you miss your classmates? I miss you!

WEDNESDAY WORK:
Reading: Do a silent reread of Bad Dog, Dodger! and answer Questions 1-5 on Reader p. 278 in your WWNB. Then complete Reading WB p. 419.
English: Complete Reading WB p. 420 Pronouns I and Me, then English pgs. 145-146 Contractions
Math: Topic 11 Review work on pgs. 679-682 - also on the PearsonRealize website! Spend at least 20 minutes on mathletics and earn our team some points.
Science: Read and complete pgs. 136-137
Religion: Read A Community Prayer, p. 142, then complete Chapter 16 Review pgs. 243-244. You may use pgs. 235-242 for help.

THURSDAY WORK:
Handwriting: Complete p. 111 Joinings
Phonics: Complete the Phonics Worksheet p. DVD255 (from packet sent home)
Spelling: Complete the Spelling Worksheet p. DVD258 (from packet sent home) Then write this week's 15 Spelling words 5x each in your WWNB.
Vocabulary: In your Journal, write 7 GOOD sentences using your weekly Vocab words - chased, chewing, dripping, grabbed, practice, treat, wagged
English: Complete p. 148 More Contractions Review, then Daily Fixit pgs. 21-22 (from packet sent home)
Math: Log in to the PearsonRealize site and complete Topic 11 Online Assessment. If you have trouble getting access, you can complete the work in your book, pgs. 683-686.
Remember, the PearsonRealize site seems to work best when accessed from a laptop or desktop computer vs. an iPad.
Mom and Dad may help with reading/clarifying questions but the work should be your own.
Science: Complete Lesson 1 Check - Words to Know. This was assigned online on the PearsonRealize site, but can be completed on paper, too. Be sure to use your book to help you answer questions correctly. The worksheet version is in your packet.
Religion: Faith in Action Activities, pgs. 245-248.

FRIDAY WORK:
Handwriting: Complete pgs. 112-113.
Spelling: No Test this week! Woohoo!
Reading: Your Weekly Reading Test has been assigned on the PearsonRealize website. Please complete it online carefully and submit it. Then spend at least 30 minutes on eSpark Reading.
English: Complete pgs. 148-149
Math: We are beginning Topic 12: Measuring Length. Cut out and complete the backs of the Vocabulary Word Cards pgs. 689-692. Complete today's assignments on PearsonRealize if you can, otherwise use your book and complete pgs. 688, and 693-696. You DO NOT need to complete pgs. 697-698 unless you want to.
Science: Complete the Lesson 1 Online Quiz assigned on the PearsonRealize website.
Religion: Complete the Unit 4 Wrap-Up and Review, pgs. 250-252.
