In English, we have completed our Writing Workshop. I cannot wait to read their personal narratives this weekend. This week, we are beginning a section on Nouns.

In Math, we will finish chapter 4, Adding Greater Numbers this week and have a test, likely on Thursday. Some children are still not proficient at rounding, which is a skill that will continue to be needed. In this chapter, we have been rounding in order to see if our actual sums are "reasonable." I have also begun to introduce some multiplication concepts, including some fun "Mr. DeMaio" videos that will help your child begin to memorize those dreaded multiplication facts. It is not too early to be practicing the x2, x3, x4, x5 facts. Remember, multiplication is simply repeated addition, and the ability to skip count will make multiplication easier. Flash cards are a boring chore, but handy for use in the car. There are many fun apps that you can download to practice multiplication.

We are reaching the end of Chapter 2 in our Science text, which is the study of Energy. We may have a test on this material on Friday. I will keep you updated as our week progresses, and Study Guides will come home to help students prepare for these tests.

Your child brought home a mid-trimester Progress Report on Friday. Please be sure to look it over, sign it, and return it on Monday. As a reminder, grades are posted frequently on PowerSchool, so please check in once in awhile to keep track of your child's ongoing progress and to check for any missing assignments. I ask students to write reminders in their assignment notebooks when they have left something at home, and many are becoming very responsible, but some children still need someone to look at their homework assignments daily and make sure they have packed up all their work.

Don't forget to sign up for the many fun, FTC-sponsored activities that are happening at St. Linus. Check out the website for all the details. I had a couple of students ask if they can do the 5K if their parents don't. Yes! All the information is available on the St. Linus webpage, so check it out!
