In Math, we are doing really well in our mastery of division concepts. We will finish Chapter 15 by the end of the week and begin having fun with FRACTIONS! Of course, we will continue with our twice weekly Quizzies to master basic multiplication facts. Some students have gotten so good at it that they are able to solve 60 division problems within 4 minutes! Woohoo!
We are studying the different regions of the USA in Social Studies. We will be ready to take the Chapter 5 Test in a week or so - I'll let you know when we begin reviewing, and study materials will come home a couple days before the test.
We talked at length on Friday about staying safe at school and went over procedures for soft and hard lockdowns. As we update our emergency procedures with the Oak Lawn Police Department, there has been a police presence in our school. The students know that we will have an official lockdown drill soon and I've done my best to prepare the children so that they know what procedures to follow without panic. If your child is anxious about this, please help them understand that we are simply practicing for something that we do not expect to ever happen, just as we practice fire drills and tornado drills. There were many questions in school, so I expect that you may be getting them at home, too.
