News for the Week of Feb. 10-13

Post date: Feb 7, 2020 9:39:34 PM

Our students have done a great job reading the morning prayer, Pledge of Allegiance, and announcements. We kick off this week with Andrew S. and Molly. Thanks for encouraging your children to practice at home to be comfortable with the words they are reading.

On Friday, I sent home a Progress Report which is a quick snapshot of your child's progress at the moment. We still have a few more weeks in the trimester. Please sign and return the Progress Report.

$2 DONUT/DOLLAR/DRESS DOWN DAY - Please return money and form with choice of donut by Tuesday. Thanks.

This week in Reading our main selection is a myth called The Night the Moon Fell. Tested Vocabulary words from this selection are:

balance, canyons, coral, rattle, slivers, sway, whisper

Our Phonics and Spelling focus will be on syllable patterns VC/CV and V/CV in 2-syllable words. Spelling Words for this week's Test are:

downstairs

houseboat

boyhood

roadway

football

railroad

oatmeal

outplay

cowboy

rainbow

soybean

daydream

sweetheart

Our weekly Reading and Spelling Tests will be on Thursday this week since students won't be in school on Friday.

In Math, we continue Topic 9: Numbers to 1,000 which will carry us through until the middle of next week. Please encourage your child to keep up with their mathletics.com assignments at home. We don't always have time in school to work on them. The current assignments do not have a due date attached, but I'll be adding additional work soon, so they need to pace themselves.

We will begin Social Studies Unit 3 this week, Working Together, which focuses on economics.

On Thursday, we will have a small Valentine's Day celebration in the later part of the school day. Students are welcome but not obligated to bring in Valentine cards to share with their classmates. If they would like to pass out Valentines, please make sure they bring one for everyone in class - we have 9 girls and 6 boys in all. If anyone would like to send in a sweet treat such as cookies or cupcakes, please give me a heads up.

Remember, no school on Friday, 2/14 or Monday, 2/17.
