Social Studies -- finish WB p. 54 if you didn't complete it during class.

English --

Today in class we did prewriting for the Book Report project. Your child brought home a yellow form with notes (My Plan) for their book report. Their first (rough) draft is due on Wednesday. They should use their notes to help them write their draft on looseleaf paper. We spent a lot of time in class discussing what is and isn't important.

Important:

-- Leave space between lines in your draft, so that you have space to write notes and changes when we revise.

-- A good description of the main character (or characters) and the setting (time and place where the story takes place.)

--A summary of the plot, including the most important events that occur. Don't give away the ending!

--A few things that you liked best about the book.

Not important:

--Every detail about a character, or details about characters who are not important to the plot.

--Every detail about the plot.

Remember -- Use your textbook pages 388-391, especially "Your Turn" to help you do your best on this first draft, but don't worry too much about grammar and spelling -- you'll fix that when we revise, edit, and proofread.

Be sure to bring everything back on Wednesday -- your book, your yellow "plan," your draft, and your textbook. I'm expecting greatness!
