This is the last week of our first trimester and it is jam-packed! It is hard to believe we are already1/3 of the way through 3rd grade.

For this final week of our second Reading unit, our main selection will be Amazing Bird Nests. Our phonics focus is on consonant digraphs.

father

nephew

Tested Vocabulary words from this week's main selection are: bill, goo, hunters, material, platform, tons, twigs

Because it is the end of the trimester, we have a lot of testing going on this week. I have tried to space them so that the kids aren't overwhelmed. Your child should have brought home their Science and Social Studies books this week to begin reviewing for upcoming tests. I asked them to look over their Science materials briefly, but spend a little more time with Social Studies. Study packets are in the front of their textbooks, tucked into the cloth book covers. There is no need to reread the chapters in entirety, but a little time can be spent reviewing material that is in their packets, especially the content they made mistakes on. Please be sure to bring study materials back to class inside books because we will review at school, too. Here is a rough schedule of our tests next week, so you know what to expect. This is subject to change if something comes up (and something usually does!)

Tuesday

English Section Test Part 1 (common/proper nouns, singular/plural nouns)

Social Studies Test

Wednesday

English Section Test Part 2 (singular and plural possessive nouns - Rules 1, 2, and 3, collective nouns, identifying the simple subject in a sentence, and deciding if a word is a noun or a verb)

Thursday

Math Test (subtracting greater numbers and subtracting with regrouping)

Friday

Weekly Spelling Test

Weekly Reading Test

Science Test (Chapter 3)

Don't forget to visit the Book Fair this weekend, either Saturday afternoon or Sunday following Mass. It is set up in the red tile vestibule. The kids got a sneak peak today and had their eyes on some good picks. We will have a preview on Monday. Students will bring home a wish list if they weren't able to buy over the weekend, and if you wish, you can send a check or cash on Tuesday, when we will return to make purchases.

Next Friday, 11/11 is our annual Veterans Ceremony to honor those who have served in our military. It is at 9:30 a.m. in Church. Students will be performing songs they have been practicing in Music class. We hope you can join us!

Saturday, 11/12 is the annual Gobble Gobble 5K. I hear that 3rd grade is currently in the lead for the class with the most participants. We have one student who already beat Mr. Kraft with her time in P.E. class. The winning class gets a pizza party!

Sunday, 11/13 is our next Family Mass. We hope to see you there!
