News for the week of September 9-13

Post date: Sep 6, 2019 8:18:22 PM

Guess which class won a PIZZA PARTY because we were first to turn in all our CANTS forms?

I'll let you know the date when I have more information.

Our main Reading selection this week will be realistic fiction entitled Henry and Mudge and the Starry Night. Vocabulary words to know from the selection are: shivered, snuggled, drooled, lanterns

In Phonics and Spelling, we will be focusing on consonant blends. Spelling words for Friday's test are:

stop

hand

clip

twin

strap

brave

stream

breeze

nest

ask

mask

state

build

couldn't

In Math, we are wrapping up Topic 1: Fluently add and subtract within 20 this week. We have reviewed and practiced a variety of strategies and I have been encouraging students to use the ones that make the most sense to them in their work. We will be doing some assessments Wednesday and Thursday this week before we begin Topic 2: Work with Equal Groups. I have been reminding students that they should be practicing their basic addition and subtraction facts for mastery regularly. We will begin some occasional timed "pop quizzes" very soon. Students should have their basic addition and subtraction facts memorized so they will be able to do more complex problem-solving more easily. Thanks for your help with this at home!

Thanks for submitting your Scholastic Book orders for September. This order period is now closed, but I'll send new forms home when I get them.
