Post date: Sep 24, 2020 2:57:00 PM

Reminder - there is no school on Friday, 9/24. Enjoy your long weekend!

This week our phonics and spelling focus is on words with consonant digraphs, words with 2 or 3 letters that make one sound. Spelling words for Friday's test are:

that

wish

patch

when

what

math

them

shape

whale

itch

chase

bunch

gone

often

Vocabulary words to know from this week's main selection The Strongest One are: narrator, relatives, dangerous, gnaws

In English we have completed our study of Sentences and will do a Writing Workshop this week, creating our own personal narratives.

In Math, we are completing Topic 2: Work with Equal Groups with an assessment on Tuesday. Then we will begin Topic 3: Add Within 100 Using Strategies. Please encourage your children to memorize their basic addition and subtraction facts to 20. Fact fluency is important as we move into more higher-level thinking. There are plenty of great apps that are engaging and fun for children. Old-fashioned flash cards on car trips work well, too!

I've noticed that many of our 2nd graders do not have a firm grasp on their basic addition and subtraction facts.

In Science we will be finishing up our chapter on Matter and will review for an assessment this Friday.
