News for the week of August 26-30
Post date: Aug 23, 2019 7:43:39 PM
We had a great first week! I'm really enjoying getting to know your children -- they all seem so kind! This week was a lot about getting to know each other and get back into a school groove. Next week we will begin getting into a more regular routine. Here's a little helpful information:
LITERACY:
We begin working with our Reading series next week. Our main selection will be The Twin Club which is realistic fiction, and we will focus on character and setting. Tested Vocabulary words from this selection are: cousins, promise, parents, meadow. Our Phonics focus is a review of short vowels and consonants. We are reviewing how to write correct sentences in our Grammar work. Students will begin working in their Word Work Notebooks and will be bringing them home and back later in the week, so watch for that.
Tested Spelling words for this week are:
rock
list
desk
job
sad
chop
sack
tag
rib
mess
dust
drum
country
someone
I will always try to post the spelling words for the next week on Friday. They are there for those who like to get an early start, and for your convenience if your child forgets to bring home their Word Work Notebook before a weekly test.
MATH:
We begin exploring our first Math Topic this week, Fluently Add or Subtract within 20. Please keep your child practicing their basic addition and subtraction facts to build fluency -- there will be occasional Pop Quizzes!
OTHER:
Students will begin writing their Homework assignments in their new Assignment Notebook/Planner and will bring it home each day that they have homework to do. Parents, you may also check this class webpage in the Homework Link in case your child doesn't write down everything they have been asked to, or if I need to elaborate on directions. Please help them to become responsible for getting homework finished and returned to their backpack with their Home folder.
Parents, if you have not yet sent in a completed CANTS form (download and print from St. Linus webpage,) please do so at your earliest convenience. We need one on file for anyone who may want to chaperone a field trip, volunteer in the building, coach, etc. These need to be completed every year and should be sent back with your oldest attending child. The first class that has turned in the necessary forms gets a treat from Ms. Hayes. Thanks!
