Not only is this a shorter week because of the holiday, but there will be exciting Homecoming Activities, so we are adjusting our work schedule a bit. Since the annual St. Linus Homecoming bonfire is Thursday evening, I won't be assigning homework on that day. We will NOT have a weekly test on the reading selection What About Me?. We WILL have a Spelling Test, but it will be on Thursday and we will focus on just 15 words.
This week's phonics and spelling skill is Plurals spelled -s, -es, and -ies. Here are the 15 Spelling Words that will be tested on THURSDAY:
pennies
inches
plants
families
bodies
glasses
wishes
pockets
lists
copies
parties
bunches
crashes
supplies
pencils
We will also work with these selection vocabulary words this week: carpenter, carpetmaker, knowledge, marketplace, merchant, plenty, straying, thread
Once I have scored and recorded grades for last week's Spelling and Reading tests, they will be sent home so parents can review errors, sign the tests, and return them the next day.
In Math, we are reviewing place value and money. In our first Science chapter, we are studying Forces and Motion. In Social Studies, we are learning about Communities. In all three of these subjects, we will be ready to have a chapter assessment soon, but not during Homecoming Week. We will review and work on a study guide for each of these upcoming tests and I'll announce test dates as soon as I can.
