News for the Week of February 22-25

Post date: Feb 19, 2021 4:43:09 PM

Many of our 2nd graders will receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time this Sunday, February 21 in Church. Please pray for them as they reach this important milestone in their Catholic faith.

Reminder: There is no school on Friday, 2/26. Teachers will be participating in professional development. Our weekly Reading and Spelling Tests will take place on Thursday.

This week in Reading our main selection is a legend called The First Tortilla. Vocabulary words to know from this selection are:

awaken, cliffs, mountain, prize, rainbow, suffer, volcano.

We will continue to work with the comprehension skills and strategies of plot and theme, monitoring and clarifying as we read, and using proper expression and intonation.

Our Phonics and Spelling focus this week is on vowel digraphs oo, ue, ew, and ui. Spelling words for Thursday's test are:

too

new

fruit

blue

true

fool

suit

spoon

clue

juice

drew

flew

know

won't

In Math, we have completed our work in Topic 9: Numbers to 1,000. Our snow/eLearning day last week set us back a day, so our assessment for this topic is on Monday. Then we will begin Topic 10: Add Within 1,000 Using Models and Strategies. Please keep reviewing basic addition and subtraction facts with your child. Adding 3 digit numbers with regrouping calls for focus and having the facts memorized will make this work much easier.

We will complete our Social Studies unit which focused on Our Earth this week and will flip back to Science next week.

Hopefully our sidewalks will soon be safe enough for outdoor recess again soon, although it's hard to tell with another round of snow coming this weekend. Please continue to send your child with warm outerwear so that when the opportunity arises for some outdoor breaks, we can take advantage. Thanks!
