Post date: Nov 15, 2019 9:42:21 PM

Our first trimester ended on 11/15 and Report Card Day is this Friday, 11/22. Please sign and return just the report card envelope at your earliest convenience. You will be able to sign up online for a parent/teacher conference. Watch your email for the link and instructions.

We begin Reading Unit 3 with a fantasy selection called Pearl and Wagner: Two Good Friends. Selection Vocabulary words to know are: robot, wad, trash, electricity.

This week in Phonics and Spelling we focus on the long e sound spelled e, ee, ea, y, (and occasionally ei or ie.) Beginning with this 2nd trimester, there will be additional spelling words added to challenge students. This week we have 18 words on our list. They are:

pretty

easy

party

wheel

leave

windy

teeth

reach

seat

sleep

receive

creative

believe

season

please

And 3 bonus words:

electricity

remember

eighteen

In Math this week, we are finishing up Topic 5: Subtract within 100 using Strategies. We should be ready for our Topic Assessment on Thursday or Friday. During the 2nd trimester we will be shortening the Timed Fact Quizzes to 2-1/2 minutes. The goal is for students to be able to complete these quizzes with at least 85% accuracy in 2 minutes or less by the end of 2nd grade. Please encourage practice at home. Mathletics.com assignments will continue to be assigned and noted in students' assignment notebooks. I understand that sometimes technology doesn't cooperate, so if you are having issues at home, please let me know with a note or email. We do also have times during our week at school when students can log on and work on these assignments.

eSpark

eSpark Learning is a differentiated learning app/platform that we will begin using soon. I have attached login information inside each student's assignment notebook, but I have not assigned any work yet. We will introduce this site in school and there may be assignments in the future. Between the Pearson platform for Reading, Math, and Science, mathletics.com, typing.com, and now eSpark, that's a lot of technology! Please hang onto all the different login slips that are sent home in the event of an e-Learning (SNOW) day. If that occurs, I will post e-learning assignments on the homework page of our class website.

Don't forget that our annual Thanksgiving Food Drive begins this Monday, 11/18 and ends 11/26. 2nd graders have been asked to donate as many cans of green beans as they can.
