News for the week of February 12

Post date: Feb 12, 2018 2:27:44 PM

This week our regular routine will be a bit different because of last week's snow day, and since we are in school just 4 days this week and next. After making up the work and tests we missed on our snow day, we will stretch this week's new reading and spelling activities over two weeks. So, there will be no spelling or reading test at the end of this week. Instead, it will take place a week from Friday.

Our new reading main selection is a biography called America's Champion Swimmer: Gertrude Ederle. Tested vocabulary words from this selection are:

celebrate, continued, current, drowned, medals, strokes, stirred

We will study the suffixes -er, -or, -ess, and -ist this week and into next week. Spelling words are:

dentist

editor

artist

hostess

actress

swimmer

seller

tutor

tourist

organist

lioness

shipper

chemist

investor

conductor

announcer

pharmacist

journalist

commuter

pianist

On Wednesday, we will attend an Ash Wednesday Prayer Service in Church. You are always welcome to join us.

Children may bring Valentine cards on Wednesday to share with their classmates. Please be sure no one is excluded. We have 10 girls and 6 boys in our class. Please do not send any food or candy treats to share. Thanks!

Just a reminder that the Six Flags Read to Succeed 6 Hour Reading Club assignment is due on February 23. Students were told from the beginning that this was not optional, even if they don't want the free theme park ticket. Please encourage your child to complete this goal and return the signed form by the due date.

More reminders: No school this Friday, 2/16 for teacher development day and Monday, 2/19 for President's Day.
