First Days A Big Success!

Well, we got through our opening days of school with much excitement and no hitches or hiccups. It was so nice to meet your lovely children in school on Thursday and Friday and be able to get to know them a little bit. Thank you to many generous and lovely parents who sent additional supplies to be shared in our classroom when things run out or get lost. You're awesome!

We are learning how to "Mind Our Wingspan" as we enter school, use the hallways, and line up for dismissal. We are washing our hands carefully and using our hand sanitizer. There has been no complaining about having to wear masks all day. I'm really proud of how adaptable, cooperative, and respectful of others our 2nd graders have already shown themselves to be! Keep it up, kiddos!

On our first day, we did a fun "Who Am I" activity in class. Children drew their self-portrait, then covered part of it with a paper mask that had clues to their identity. We had a lot of fun looking at the portraits and trying to guess who was behind each mask. Your children know their classmates very well!

Next week we may be dealing with some hot temperatures and as we wait for our wonderful air conditioning units to be installed we will take advantage of the outdoors as much as we can, with additional recess time, walks around the school campus, and some outdoor classtime. If you haven't already, please send your child with a bath or beach towel so they can be comfortable sitting on the grass or sidewalk. We may also be eating lunch outside, weather permitting, these next few weeks.

Dismissal pick-up went very smoothly the first two days. On Monday we will have many more students dismissing through our many doors, so please continue to be patient as you have been this week. Since our class departs through the doors near the church parking lot, if it is convenient, feel free to park there and walk over to meet your child. Once they spot you either on foot or in your car near our entrance, they need to point you out to me before I will allow them to leave.

Today, I sent an email to you that invites you to "Join" Class Tag. If you are familiar with ClassDojo, this is a similar app, and it will allow me to keep you up-to-date on what is happening in our classroom. Once we have Google Classroom up and running, they will be linked, and I'm told it's a pretty seamless and very easy way for us to communicate. Please check it out at your earliest convenience and watch for announements and messages that your can easily respond to. If you did not receive a Class Tag invitation email, it may be that I have an old email address on file that you no longer use, so please contact me with the latest and best email to reach you. Thanks!

When our fabulous St. Linus tech crew has gmail accounts set up and ready to go for each of our young students I'll be sending you another invitation to "Join" our Google Classroom. Stay tuned for more about that as soon as I have more to share!

REMINDERS:

We have P.E. on Monday and Wednesday, so please be sure to send children in their gym uniform on those days.

Students may wear their P.E. uniforms or this year's Hawktoberfest tshirt any day through this next week if they find it more comfortable than their regular uniform.

Be sure to send a non-spill water bottle on hot days so we can stay hydrated. A separate drink can be sent for lunchtime.
