Hello, my 2nd grade friends!

First of all, I want to tell you that I miss you all dearly. It is hard to be away from you for so long. I think of you many times a day, every day. Sometimes I get really sad when I think about what we have missed in these weeks that we needed to be home to stay safe. But your pictures and messages never fail to put a smile on my face. I'm so glad to have heard from all of you often and this week, I'm posting your messages to each other. I hope they put a smile on your face today.

Second, I've been wondering what you've been doing with all your spare time. I can't wait to work in my garden, but the weather hasn't been cooperating. One of the things I started doing to keep busy a few weeks ago was jigsaw puzzles. This 1,000 piece puzzle was supposed to be a picture of many beautiful lighthouses in the U.S. However, my friend Pip decided he wanted my attention more than he wanted to see the puzzle finished. Not only did he lay on top of it whenever I sat down to work, he also began stealing the pieces. Eventually, I came up with the idea of covering it with a giant piece of cardboard when I wasn't working on it, but unfortunately I still haven't found a few pieces that he snatched. I finished a different 1,000 piece puzzle of a beautiful scene of wild horses, and next I'll pull out my 1,000 piece Sushi puzzle. I have started studying Japanese using the Duolingo App on my phone. It is really fun and I have worked on it every day for the past 48 days, but Japanese is a very hard language! I will keep working at it. I hope you've been able to work on your Spanish-speaking skills since we haven't been in school.

Next, it is important to keep our bodies moving even if we are stuck at home. Above, my friend Mew demonstrates her amazing yoga technique. Can you put your leg behind your ear like her? I certainly can't - I think it would get stuck if I tried! Too much screen time can be bad for our brains and our bodies, so make sure you are doing some stretching and moving. I hope you are getting outside on the days when the weather is nice, even if it is just for a safe, socially-distant walk! Mr. Dillon has sent me a fun Jumping Jack Challenge that I will include a link to on my Homework post this week. Keep active! I hope to see you outside when we have our St. Linus Teacher Parade this coming Wednesday. Make sure you check out the route and wave to me when I drive by!

Finally, it might be hard to tell from this last picture, but I am smiling at you behind my homemade face covering. This was the first one that I made and it was super easy. I used an old (but clean) sock and made a few cuts with some scissors. It only took about a minute to make! I found the directions on YouTube. Since then, I've made a few other kinds, but this one is the most comfortable and I like the color. Now that we will be wearing these for awhile at places like stores, it is sort of fun to see the different ways we can make our own face coverings. If you and your family have made any, send me a photo and we can share them next week.

If you did not get a chance to email me a message to your classmates yet this week, it's okay! You can send one anytime and I'll update this post or make a new one next week. It is fun to see and hear from each other, and I hope to hear from all of you again soon! I know this is hard, and is mostly not fun, but keep being your best self by loving, helping, and caring for your family members. Stay in touch with your friends by calling or writing them. You'll see each other again, so talk about all the fun things you can do when it is safe to get together again.

Love,

Mrs. O'C
