Who Is Cuco?

Cuco is a music artist who released popular songs like “Lover Is a Day” and “Lo Que Siento,“ but who is Cuco?  

Cuco's real name is Omar Banos. He is twenty-six years old and was born on June 26, 1998.  Cuco started to make music when he was only eight years old. One of Cuco's inspirations to make music is Spanish music in general. He is influenced by Chicano rappers like Lil' Rob and MC Magic. Cuco started making indie pop music and released his first album in January 2015. “Lover Is a Day” and “Lo Que Siento” are his most popular songs.

Students at Fitz listen to Cuco for a variety of reasons. Emily Guadarrama likes Cuco because she finds his music relatable. She is fond of the lyrics he uses because they bring back memories. She stated, “I like Cuco because he has songs I can relate to and it brings nostalgia.” Cuco’s songs are about memories from the past. Genesis Reyes says her favorite song is “Amor de Siempre” because the song reminds her of people she knows. Mayte Delgado says her favorite Cuco song is "Lover Is a Day" because she loves how his voice sounds and enjoys the beat. Cuco makes his beats with lots of instruments and auto-tunes. 

People have discovered Cuco in different ways. Mayte Delgado found Cuco’s music on TikTok. Lots of people find Cuco’s music through TikTok and other social media apps, which is one of the reasons why Cuco is so popular and loved by millions of people. He’s become so popular that when Cuco releases new merchandise, it sells out immediately. Cuco has 5.2 million monthly listeners on Spotify and has done 255 concert tours.

Despite being an amazing music artist, there are some things Cuco can improve on. For example, although Cuco has been making music since 2016 and continues to sell-out concerts, it seems that his old songs are more popular than his new songs. His most popular songs are “Lover Is a Day” and "Lo Que Siento.”  Everyone seems to love the beat and lyrics he used in both those songs. But Cuco has been using different beats and instruments and hasn’t come out with big hit songs like his old ones. Cuco hasn’t released any hit songs since 2023. Some believe that Cuco’s music needs more variety. “Cuco is an excellent music artist, but he needs to change his beats up since he uses beats [similar to] his other songs,” said an anonymous student. It would be good if he used more variety in his music since listeners want to hear new music. 

Cuco is an amazing artist with incredible talent and millions of fans. He has a great voice and he uses different types of autotune to make his voice stand out more. With his innovative sound and unwavering passion, Cuco continues to captivate audiences around the world.
