Year after year, each new spelling bee team shocks us with their brilliance and their intelligent minds, but what's really going on behind the scenes? The spelling bee has a very complex process that makes sure our school is represented as well as it could be. And most importantly, how can YOU be a part of it?
The 2025 Spelling Bee Team consists of 4 members, Joaquin Ablis, Evan Vuong, Angel Tran, and Abigail Nguyen, with Megan Tran as our alternate. This team was chosen carefully by Ms. Hudson.. When asked about what she is looking for in a team, Ms. Hudson replied, “For our team, my first goal is to find kids who are just naturally good at spelling, because it is impossible to memorize all the words in the English language--we have over 1,000,000!” She knows that it’s important that kids in the spelling bee can naturally be their best, without grinding day and night studying words, since it’s impossible to learn every word in the English language. But also, studying and a good, hard-working mindset are important to her too. She also said, “I give the students words to study. I want to see if they will work hard for our team!” If you don’t know how to work hard to study for your spelling bee, how are you going to do your best? If you are a naturally great speller and a hard worker on top of that, you should definitely come try out next year, since that’s what the school is looking for!
But how did the Spelling Bee Team get chosen in the first place? Tryouts took place in Room 35, and each scholarly student did their best, spelling out 40 words for a chance to be on the Spelling Bee Team. Some students wanted to see how good they actually were at spelling, to reach their maximum, and they were shocked to see how good they actually were. “I wanted to test out my limits,” stated Melissa Garcia. Students were proud of how capable they were, and shocked to find out their abilities when trying out for the spelling bee. Tryouts are an inseparable need for our school to find students who are the best fit for the competition.
In conclusion, our spelling bee contestants are chosen by lots of attributes, like their hard-working dedication, and also their intelligence. You can be part of the spelling bee, too! Come by Room 35 for tryouts next year, seventh graders!
