A recent trend here at Fitz has been long acrylic nails. People have spent upwards of $50 for these nails. A lot of people question whether these nails are a good decision or not. Students say having their nails done raises their confidence and the cost is worth it because they last long. What do you think––would you get long acrylic nails?
Fake nails seem to give teens more confidence in themselves because they use their nails to express themselves. For example, an anonymous 7th grader says, “I see other kids who have it (long nails) are more confident in themselves.” This is important because a lot of middle schoolers are insecure and don't feel happy with the way they look. Having low self-esteem can affect everything you do, including how well you do in school. And if having acrylic nails can raise someone’s confidence, why not get them?
Acrylic nails are not only stylish, they are also strong and have many benefits. Since they are made of a liquid monomer and a powder polymer, they are resilient. This prevents any breakage and promotes nail growth. They can be tailored to fit anyone's personal style, making everyone feel confident and unique. On top of all this, with the proper nail care they can maintain their appearance for weeks to come. This makes them a practical, low maintenance, yet stylish choice for you.
However, it’s essential to consider the important drawbacks. Fake nails can stop people from doing many daily tasks. A lot of teens and even adults have them and get them done. But since people get these nails really long, it's hard to do normal daily activities. Such as, typing on a computer and phone. Typing is really important, especially for students at Fitz. If you need to type something really quickly, long nails are not your friend. On the other hand, this isn’t that big of a deal because usually you don't have to type something quickly. A seventh grader says, “Typing with nails is hard because you have to use your finger instead of your fingertips.” This shows how difficult it can be. But this issue is easily solved by just getting shorter nails.
All things considered, nails help young teens have confidence. Even though they are expensive there isn't any harm in being confident and happy with yourself. Nails are harmless and have more pros than cons.
