Most Falcons Are on Their Phones at Home. What Can Fitz Can Do?

Are you ever bored after school because there is nothing to do? Well, you’re not alone. Most Fitz students rely on their phones for entertainment after school because of boredom. So, is there anything Fitz can do about it?

Students spend most of their free time on their phones. A Fitz student said, "I mostly just do my homework and then go on TikTok [after school]."  Students spend their time using technology instead of going outside and doing something productive, like playing a sport or talking to friends. Another student said that they spend at least 7-9 hours on Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat and more. 

Students spend most of their time on their phones because there is nothing to do after school at Fitz. Fitz does offer BGC, pentathlon, art club, mariachi, and weight room, but that's not enough. It's not enough because those clubs focus on academics. According to Donovan Villalobos, BGC is boring because you have to sit for an hour straight doing homework. That's why a lot of students refuse to join some clubs.

Fitz needs to offer interesting clubs after school so students can happily join and stay off their phones. Some students said that they want more school events so they can hang out with their friends and have fun. School events will prevent students from being on their devices because they'll be distracted with their friends. An anonymous student said, "I want some school events like my old school had because they were really fun." Students at Monroe Elementary participated in Halloween events where they could play games and win candy. There were also other events, like winter concerts and Thanksgiving drawings, etc. Maybe Fitz should invest money on after school events like Monroe Elementary in order to combat phone usage at home.

Students who are bored at home are turning to their phones for entertainment, but Fitz can help by creating events that students can attend.
