Choir is a place where friends and classmates can come together and create beautiful memories with their voices. While most students are very insecure about their singing voices, our wonderful choir teacher, Dr. Hernandez, has sparked a passion in many 7th and 8th grade students! Her choir team has performed many beautiful songs in concerts and events here at Fitz!
Many students in choir enjoy it, and all have stated many positive things about Dr. Hernandez and choir. Choir is a great elective where students get to practice singing and make new friends. An anonymous student said, “I have fun in choir because I get to make new friends and meet new people.” Another student spoke about their love and passion for singing and how they got into choir. He stated, “My love for singing and music got me into choir. Also, I wanted to put myself out there in an elective that I could perform.” Choir attracts people who have a passion for singing. Once students find themselves in choir, Dr. Hernandez makes sure her kids feel safe, loved, and special. An anonymous student said, “She is the best! She makes us feel loved and cares for us a lot.”
Dr. Hernandez has a lot on her plate. She teaches, performs with her students, and travels with her students to perform in other places. She works hard because she is passionate about what she does. Dr. Hernandez stated, “I decided to teach choir because I love music and I love helping students discover their voices. There’s something amazing about watching a group of singers grow, improve, and create beautiful music together. And yes, it is fun! Every rehearsal brings new energy, surprises, and moments that make me proud to be your teacher.”
Field trips are a big part of being in choir. The field trips take a lot of planning. Dr. Hernandez stated, “I look for opportunities that help you learn, perform, or experience music in exciting new ways. Then I work with the school, the bus company, chaperones, and the place we’re visiting to make sure everything is safe and organized.” Dr. Hernandez puts in a lot of work for our choir team for field trips! The most exciting one is Fitz's Annual Knotts Visit! But funding the field trips takes a lot of work. Dr. Hernandez stated, “We fund our trips through a combination of school support, fundraising, and sometimes student contributions. I always do my best to keep costs as low as possible so everyone has the chance to participate. Fundraisers, donations, and careful budgeting all help us make big trips possible.”
The choir elective does a lot for our school, so go to concerts—support your friends! Go with your family! Or go to see your brother or sister! Or just go to watch them sing! Support your school and choir team! They sure are awesome!
