On Thursday, September 19, Fitz Intermediate held its first 2024 Noche de Tertulia in the MPR. The event was created by Mr. Gomez and Mr. Magana in 2023. This event was created because Fitz is a dual language school, so they needed more events to engage the community. Noche de Tertulia is an important event at Fitz where students can learn leadership skills by watching other students give presentations, work at their booths, and show their projects.
Every Noche de Tertulia has presentations about a topic. This Noche de Tertulia’s topic was La Educacion. There were students from our school and even two students from Los Amigos High School who presented. At the event, Fitz got a police officer and a lawyer to come and do a presentation about their life and their jobs. This was helpful for the students at Fitz because these presentations, believe it or not, helped students think early about their lives and future careers. An anonymous student in 7th grade said that the event was very informational and that it gave her ideas for careers in the future. Overall, Noche de Tertulia did help the students with ideas for their future careers.
Most of the students and parents at the event were enjoying their time. An anonymous AVID student in 8th grade said that she was glad she was at the event because she was able to earn some AVID community service hours. A bit like the student’s parent who also said he was glad that he came because he learned some stuff that can help with his child’s future career. A student who presented said that she was glad that she participated at in the event because she was happy to see her hard work pay off. Another parent there said that she was glad that she came because she got to see the student projects and presentations. Finally, a student named Ruth Cambrey said that her favorite part of Noche de Tertulia was that she got to see her friends present the projects that they were working on.
At the event, there were also food sales. They sold nachos, chips that were spicy or not spicy, chicharrones, and soda. It was really nice that some parents of the students came to the event to help sell the food. A parent said that she was glad that she could help out with the event, and watch the students work hard as well.
All and all, Noche de Tertulia was a very successful event. The students there had fun going around asking questions about people. The students who were working at the small booths did a great job at the event presenting their projects. And the parents and students learned new stuff and had fun.
