Fitz performed at the Los Amigos High School during the Los Amigos High School varsity football game against Rancho Alamitos High School. Around twenty Fitz students played alongside the Los Amigos band on the bleachers.
Fitz band students were required to meet in front of Room 23 before 6:45 pm—any band student that arrived before 6:30 pm was allowed to eat pizza or spend time with their friends. Once 7 o’clock hit, the students and their instruments filled the bus up.
The students felt a bit nervous while performing. “I felt nervous at the start,” said Jaydin Nguyen. “When we actually stepped foot on the bleachers, all my nervousness went away.”
Students didn’t have any time to prepare before the show, so they were confused on what song they were supposed to play. “The students got really confused when the Los Amigos High School students started playing,” said Amanda Huynh.
Although some students felt nervous, a majority of them felt excited. “I was terrified,” said Huynh. “I’m pretty sure everyone else was. Yet, we were still super excited. A lot of [students] thought they were going to ‘mess-up’ during the performance.”
Fitz band students performed between the plays and during the quarter break, while pregame and halftime shows were performed solely by the high school marching band.
Overall, the performance was a success.
