La Quinta lion dance students performed the lion dance at Fitz Intermediate on Friday, February 4th to celebrate the Lunar New Year and display their talent. Lunar New Year is an event that occurs once a year especially in East and Southeastern Asia on February 1st, the start of the 2022 Lunar New Year.
Many people celebrate this day with their friends and family. “Although I wasn’t able to celebrate Tết this year, I usually always celebrate with family by having a feast and to just spend quality time with them,”Jaydin Nguyen said.
La Quinta High School celebrates Lunar New Year by going to many different schools to perform a lion dance. The lion dance intends to bring luck and prosperity. This year, Fitz was fortunate to have La Quinta do this performance!
The performance was set in the PE courts– where volleyball, basketball, and pickleball are often played. All students were required to watch the performance.
La Quinta first came with female students in many varieties of ao dais performing a traditional dance. Many students were highly impressed!
“The students in the ao dais are so pretty and they did a phenomenal job dancing! The way they moved around seems so satisfying to me, it’s so elegant in a way. I would love to see this again at next year’s Tềt,” Alexa Quach said.
After La Quinta females performed in their ao dais, La Quinta came out with the lion dancers! Although the performance wasn’t long, many students loved it. Tien Le said, “Both the ao dai and lion dance performance were a lot better than many that I’ve seen. They’re really talented and experienced for just high schoolers! It’s impressive.”
La Quinta lion dance performers have done a great job performing for the start of a Lunar New Year!
